I’ve made calendars in the past with family pictures to give for Christmas gifts to family. Everyone always looked forward to each year’s new calendar with fun pics and each month had a list of birthdays and anniversaries. Sadly, I didn’t make time to get them done in 2014…or 2015. So, this year I was determined to have 2016 calendars done and ready for gifting.
I found the calendars on sale and the 60% off was ending soon, the house was quiet, and I was knocking this task off the Christmas “to-do” list. It was after midnight one night when I finally wrapped up the design and hit the “Order” button. I was done! I got my Christmas cards and calendars on order.
My package arrived December 7 bearing these precious calendars and cards to give for Christmas. I opened my box and flipped through the calendars and right there in the month of May I had typed a caption that read, “Dawn, But, Pap & Abbie”. My sweet mother, whom we call Bug, was labeled as “But”… thankfully, it only had one “t”! I’m thinking.. well, I can put labels over that area. Or, I can use a sharpie.. or we can just all get a good laugh.
Frustrated with myself .. but laughing… (I mean, what else can you do).. I showed this mistake to my kiddos… who flip through the calendar and proceed to tell me.. “Mom, this calendar is 2013.. it’s not even the right year!”
As I’ve said before.. I’m a hot mess… but blessed none the less! Needless to say, I’ve redone the calendars. I had my 11 year old proof read. And, I pressed “Order” again. It’s really not a good deal when you have to order the same thing twice. Thankfully, they were still on sale. So, I bought the same items twice.. once at 60% off and once at 50% off.. I guess that means I ended up paying full price in addition to wasting time. I can’t help but be reminded of the saying, “If you don’t have time to do it right the first time, what makes you think you’ll have time to do it over?” I’m thankful I did have time for a do-over. But, yet again… I’ve learned the hard way that it’s just best to slow down, do it right, and always have a proofreader before hitting “order” or “publish”.
